Caterina Calvino Prina

Founder, Artistic Director and teacher graduated at the Vaganova Ballet Academy in Kiev headed by Alvina Kalchenko, and she attended university courses in Vaganova method. She studied with Alvina Kalchenko, Alla Nekrasova, Liudmila Volodko, and Irina Skripnik and she specialized in the Vaganova method. Since 1999, she has been the Italian representative of the Ukrainian Ballet Academy of Kiev. In 2005, she founded the permanent seat of the AUB in Milan at the Teatro delle Erbe and became its director. Since the beginning, she has been organizing events of great artistic importance in the main theatres in Milan and all over the national territory, in particular gran galas, in which international étoiles from the major theatres in the world take part. Since 2009, she has also organized tours presenting the most important ballets of the classical repertoire, such as Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker and Don Quixote, which were staged in prestigious theatres such as the Arcimboldi Theatre in Milan, the Verdi Theatre in Florence and in many others. For the organisation of these tours, the Academy has a special collaboration with the Macedonian Opera and Ballet House, offering to the students the opportunity to take part in these events, by the side of renowned professionals. As a choreographer, Caterina Calvino Prina completed her training including modern and contemporary dance in her studies, and now, having developed a very personal technique and style, she teaches these disciplines at the Ukranian Ballet Academy. She received numerous prizes and awards with her students, including the prestigious International Award Dancing without Borders which was held in Kiev in April 2004, 2007 and 2012. She devised the choreographies of Carmen for the students of the Ukrainian Ballet Academy, and in 2011 she was entrusted with the choreographies of the opera-musical LA DIVINA COMMEDIA, with music written by Don Marco Frisina. She had previously made her debut as guest choreographer in occasion of the colossal version of La Divina Commedia at the Arena di Verona in 2010, and she then became official choreographer of this production in October 2011 in occasion of the international premiere at the Grimaldi Forum in Montecarlo, which was followed by a tour in many Italian cities. In 2012 she directed the gran gala Angeli sulle punte at the Arena di Verona, in which many international étoiles took part, amongst which: Les ballets Trockadero de Montecarlo, Denis and Anastasia Matvienko. Since 2014, she has been the organizer and producer of all the performances of the Academy's students, which are part of the theatre season at the Arcimboldi theatre in Milan. In 2019, she oversaw the transformation of the Academy’s company into AUB COMPAGNIA ITALIANA DI BALLETTO, producing and distributing performances throughout Italy and establishing a partnership with Ecoteatro in Milan. In 2020/21, thanks to a fruitful collaboration with TAM Teatro Arcimboldi Milano, she added a new location to the Accademia Ucraina di Balletto, allowing the Academy to utilize the theater’s wonderful spaces daily. In 2022, she wrote and directed the musical comedy “Equilibri sopra la Follia”, which received great success and was renewed for the following season. Starting from the 2023/24 academic year, in collaboration with TAM Teatro Arcimboldi Milano, she founded the three-year professional Contemporary program “Formazione TAM”, primarily based in the theater itself. In 2023, she opened a new branch of the Academy at the prestigious Teatro Lirico in Cagliari. In 2024, she was entrusted with the direction and management of the renowned Dance School of Teatro Carcano, which, under her leadership, found new life and important new opportunities. From September 2024, she is the Creative Director of the new project in collaboration with Teatro Arcimboldi: "TAM Ballet."
